Is Kamagra Effective?
What is Kamagra?
Kamagra is the product of Ajanta Pharma Limited, one of the fastest growing Indian pharmaceutical companies. Among all the available generic versions of Viagra, Kamagra seems to be the most popular product, promoted in the web as the generic alternatives of original Viagra.
Kamagra is a form of treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). It contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate, which is used in generic Viagra and comes in either tablet or oral jelly form. It is usually bought online as a cheap alternative to Viagra or Levitra, and it is thought to work in a similar way.
PDE5 Inhibitory action
Kamagra is classified as a PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) inhibitor, which is specific in inhibiting the enzyme PDE5 responsible for the inability of an individual to get an erection or maintain an erection. Kamagra blocks phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor’s activity in degrading the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) responsible for directing the blood flow to the penis via relaxation of the smooth muscles, which mediates the erectile response in patients. Since there is no phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor blocking the action of cGMP in the patients, the cGMP levels sufficient in eliciting the erectile response is maintained.

What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction, the main condition treated with Kamagra, is defined as a persistent inability of achieving or maintaining a healthy erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. Although not threatening, this condition influences drastically the sexual intimacy and self-confidence, reducing the quality of life.
Statistics indicate that up to 7% of men aged 18-29 are affected by this health problem, the prevalence of erectile dysfunction rising from men aged 50 to 59.
When does erectile dysfunction occur?
Erectile dysfunction becomes more common as men get older. It’s also associated with some medical conditions, like heart disease and diabetes. In fact, diabetic men are four times more likely to develop erectile dysfunction than those without diabetes. They also tend to develop erectile dysfunction ten to fifteen years earlier and have more severe cases.
What causes erectile dysfunction?
At least one in ten men has trouble getting or keeping an erection at some time. There may be physical or psychological causes or a mixture of both. Whatever the cause is, due to muscle and blood vessel changes not enough blood stays in the penis to make it hard and keep it hard.
Here are some potential causes:
- Hormonal issues;
- Nerve damage. When a man is sexually aroused, his brain sends messages to his penis to start the erection process. But if there is nerve damage, these messages cannot be transmitted properly;
- Poor blood flow to the penis;
- Medication side effects;
- Peyronie’s disease. Peyronie’s disease is a wound healing disorder marked by a distinct curvature of the penis. Many men with Peyronie’s disease develop erectile dysfunction, although experts aren’t sure exactly why;
- Psychological and emotional issues;
Lifestyle. Smoking, obesity, drug and alcohol abuse, an unhealthy diet, and poor exercise habits can contribute to other health conditions associated with erectile dysfunction.
What are the differences between Viagra and Kamagra?
First of all, original Viagra is available in three different dosages: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg, thus allowing doctors to choose the strength, which is the most appropriate for a particular patient. On the other hand, Kamagra, produced in either 50 mg or 100 mg tablets, is mostly available on the web at its maximum strength, which is 100 mg.
Another concern about generic alternatives of Viagra is the potential contamination and/or improper dosages of working ingredient in every pill. Though Kamagra is said to be produced at a highly technological plant, the risk of getting a pill with a dosage other than indicated on the label still remains.
Secondly, Kamagra is an unapproved generic drug.
Even if from the chemical point of view, they both contain the same active ingredient, sildenafil citrate, Kamagra is produced and exported out of India and is available on websites throughout the world without a prescription.
This makes Kamagra potentially very dangerous because the medication may not be suitable for you. Without a prescription, you can never be sure if the ingredients in any medication are entirely safe for you. Kamagra is popular amongst some men because it is seen as a cheap and easy alternative to other impotence medications such as Viagra.
However, a small economy in your budget can bring you a lot of risks to your health. You should only take medications such as Viagra or Sildenafil when they have been prescribed to you by a registered and licensed healthcare professional.
Kamagra tablets
The available dosage forms for Kamagra include 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg for pills and tablets.
Tablets come as little diamond-shaped pills coloured in blue, available in single or four pills packs. The medicine is taken orally with liquids, preferably water.
The use of Kamagra tablets is illegal in the UK.
That means that this form of sildenafil was not approved by the MHRA.
Even if they are available on numerous websites, you are putting your health at very high risk if you are taking into consideration the administration of the cheapest form of sildenafil citrate.
There are many reasons why you shouldn’t buy Kamagra online:
Legal point of view
The drug’s distribution in the international markets is a matter of concern. Even if Kamagra is approved by the Indian Foods and Drug Administration, selling websites in the UK distribute the product illegally.
Kamagra is currently unlicensed in the EU and therefore cannot be prescribed to you by a doctor. Because of this, the exact ingredients and side effects of Kamagra are unknown, and using it is unsafe and potentially dangerous.
Because Kamagra is still unlicensed and unregulated in the UK, websites selling it are likely to sell fake or imitation versions, and so the exact ingredients may vary. It is therefore impossible to tell whether or not Kamagra will definitely work, and the drug’s effects will vary drastically depending upon which version you buy.
Except for the legal point of view, there are still many concerns regarding the quality of the product.
Is it worth the risk?
Since the effects of Kamagra cannot be evaluated by a doctor or a pharmacist, buying drugs such as Kamagra from the internet is never worth the risk to your safety and personal health, especially when there is such a wide range of easily accessible and legal treatments for erectile dysfunction available. Talk to our healthcare providers if you are concerned about your difficulties gaining or sustaining an erection for a full overview of your options for treatment.
Safe alternatives to treat Erectile dysfunction
Oral medications. Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors like avanafil (Spedra), sildenafil (Viagra), generic sildenafil, tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra) help increase blood flow to the penis. These drugs are usually the first method patients try, but they should not be used by men who take nitrates. Patients with slow drug absorption (e.g., Parkinsonian patients) may need to wait 2-3 hours for an erection to develop after taking PDE5 inhibitors.
Sildenafil
Mechanism of action
Sildenafil citrate is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, which prevents cyclic GMP (guanosine monophosphate) from being degraded by the enzyme PDE5, once reaching the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This enzyme is responsible for proper erections as it triggers and restricts the contraction and relaxation of the penis muscles.
As a result of its action, cGMP levels increase, and the muscles relax, allowing more blood flow into the penis. This leads to vasodilation of the intimal cushion of the helicine arteries, which results in better erections when a man is sexually stimulated. Without sexual stimulation, cGMP is not activated so no erection appears.
This medicine is metabolized by enzymes found inside the liver and excreted by both kidneys and liver. For maximum effects, Sildenafil shouldn’t be taken with high-fat meals, as fats reduce its absorption and consequently its plasma concentration.
What happens after sex?
Your erection should go away. In the rare event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help to avoid long-term injury.
You should avoid Sildenafil if you:
- Are allergic to the active substance called sildenafil or other similar medicines, such as vardenafil, tadalafil, and others;
- Are experiencing symptoms of an allergy, such as skin rash, itchy skin, redness of the skin, swelling of the face, swelling of the tongue, difficulty breathing, contact your doctor immediately;
- Have heart diseases (angina pectoris, heart failure and others);
- Are taking nitrates, used in the treatment of heart diseases, such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate and others. Concomitant use of Kamagra with these medicines can cause hypotension (low blood pressure);
- Have non-arthritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). If you are experiencing vision changes, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately;
- Have had a heart attack or stroke. Kamagra may be used in a lower dose (1/2 of the standard daily dose of 100 mg) in case of myocardial infarction or stroke. But the use of the drug is possible only in 6 months after infarction/stroke, and only if a cardiologist allowed this;
- Have liver damage;
- Have genital abnormalities.
Side effects
This drug may cause the following side effects:
- Headaches (occurs very often);
- Dizziness;
- Flushing;
- Vision changes;
- Changing the way you perceive pain;
- Tinnitus;
- Hearing loss (occurs very rarely);
- Low blood pressure (hypotension);
- Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia);
- Heart attack (risk is increased in patients who already have heart disease);
- Nasal congestion;
- Nosebleeds;
- Vomiting;
- Nausea;
- Indigestion;
- Steven-Johnson syndrome (occurs very rarely);
- Allergy and others.
These side effects go away with proper care and precautions. However, to be on the safe side, it is advised to consult a physician in case you observe these side effects.
Levitra
Levitra 5, 10 and 20mg film-coated tablets are currently granted Marketing Authorizations to Bayer Pharma AG.
Levitra contains the active ingredient vardenafil, which belongs to the same class of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. This medicine reduces the action of the natural chemical in the body which makes erections go away.
Levitra Tablets allows an erection to last long enough to satisfactorily complete sexual activity. Vardenafil Tablets will only work when a patient is sexually stimulated. The tablets are administered orally, swallowed with a glass of water.
Levitra Tablets must not be taken more than once a day. This medicine should be taken exactly as advised by the patient’s doctor or pharmacist. The patient should check with their doctor or pharmacist if they are not sure. The recommended dose is 10 mg. Levitra Tablets should be taken about 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. With sexual stimulation, a patient may achieve an erection anywhere from 25 minutes up to four to five hours after taking Levitra Tablets
Tadalafil
In general, the recommended dose of tadalafil is 10 mg taken prior to anticipated sexual activity and with or without food.
In those patients in whom tadalafil 10 mg does not produce an adequate effect, 20 mg might be administered. It may be taken at least 30 minutes prior to sexual activity.
The maximum dose frequency is once per day.
Tadalafil 10 mg and 20 mg is intended for use prior to anticipated sexual activity and it is not recommended for continuous daily use.
Dose adjustments are not required in elderly patients.
Dose adjustments are not required either in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. For patients with severe renal impairment, 10 mg is the maximum recommended dose for on-demand treatment.
Diabetic patients can administer safely Tadalafil without any dose adjustments.
For a better understanding of the underlying causes of erectile dysfunction, as well as preventing possible interactions between Tadalafil and other concomitant medications, a medical history and physical examination should be undertaken..
Prior to initiating any treatment for erectile dysfunction, physicians should consider the cardiovascular status of their patients, since there is a degree of cardiac risk associated with sexual activity. Tadalafil has vasodilator properties, resulting in mild and transient decreases in blood pressure and as such potentiates the hypotensive effect of nitrates.
The evaluation of erectile dysfunction should include a determination of potential underlying causes and the identification of appropriate treatment following an appropriate medical assessment. It is not known if tadalafil is effective in patients who have undergone pelvic surgery or radical non-nerve-sparing prostatectomy.
Cardiovascular status
In patients with serious cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, unstable angina pectoris, ventricular arrhythmia, stroke, transient ischaemic attacks, chest pain, palpitations and tachycardia, Tadalafil should be used with precaution.
Most of the patients in whom these events have been reported had pre-existing cardiovascular risk factors.
In patients who are taking alpha1 blockers, concomitant administration of tadalafil may lead to symptomatic fall in the blood pressure.
The combination of tadalafil and doxazosin is not recommended.
Effects on vision function and hearing
Visual defects and cases of NAION have been reported in connection with the intake of tadalafil and other PDE5 inhibitors. Observational data suggest an increased risk of acute NAION in men with erectile dysfunction following exposure to tadalafil or other PDE5 inhibitors. As this may be relevant for all patients exposed to tadalafil, the patient should be advised that in case of sudden visual defect, to stop taking Tadalafil and address immediately to the physician.
Decreased or sudden hearing loss
Cases of sudden hearing loss have been reported after the use of tadalafil. Although other risk factors were present in some cases (such as age, diabetes, hypertension and previous hearing loss history) patients should be advised to stop taking tadalafil and seek prompt medical attention in the event of sudden decrease or loss of hearing.
Other common side effects: headaches, flushing, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, back pain, myalgia, pain in extremity.
In summary
Erectile dysfunction is a symptom and not a disease, therefore it is important to identify any underlying disease or condition that may be causing it. Erectile dysfunction cannot be cured but it can be kept under control.
Erectile dysfunction is also associated with physical causes such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and radical prostatectomy, psychological or emotional causes such as relationship problems or mental health problems and the use of certain drugs such as antihypertensive drugs.
Kamagra is not licensed in the UK, therefore buying it from the internet might be a risky business.
There are safe alternatives to treat erectile dysfunction, like Viagra, Sildenafil, Vardenafil, Levitra, Tadalafil and Cialis.
